Lila says this about her work:"Small magical subjects
that are hidden in the quiet corners of nature excite me. These intimate
glimpses of natural beauty have extraordinary poetry. I believe that
painting close-ups of nature not only gives me a whole new range of
subjects, but adds a new dimension to my work. I do not feel I can improve
on nature, but feel compelled to interpret visually how nature has inspired
and fascinated me. Flowers have always been a part of my life. My mother
had a garden filled with fragrance and color form early spring through
October. And I have become an avid gardener, too. Watercolor is a medium
that awakens my creativity. Its perverse qualities challenge me to harness
its innate vigor. To me watercolor seems limitless in its artistic potential
and presents infinite possibilities. Transparent watercolor has a luminosity
that sets it apart from all other media. Light passes through the paint
to the white paper and reflects back to the viewer with a transparent
quality that gives watercolor its characteristic glow. I prefer to paint
the pleasing, pleasant and delightful to the eye. I choose to bring
a little beauty into the world."
